ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called an urgent meeting to review the country’s recent heavy rains and flood situation.
The meeting, chaired by the prime minister, is currently underway. Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lieutenant General Inam Haider, is briefing the prime minister on the latest situation, according to sources.
The briefing covers the extent of the damage, ongoing rescue and relief efforts, and the challenges faced by teams in affected areas. The government is also considering declaring the worst-hit regions as disaster zones, sources added.
Authorities say relief activities are being carried out in all affected regions, and updates on aid distribution and rescue operations are being shared with the prime minister.
