Vivo has launched two new entry-level 5G smartphones in China—the Y50 and Y50m—targeting budget-conscious users with long battery life and essential 5G features. Both devices feature identical hardware, with the only difference being their memory configurations. The Y50 offers a 4GB RAM variant, which the Y50m lacks.
Design and Display Overview:
The Y50 and Y50m both feature a 6.74-inch IPS LCD with a 1600 x 720 pixel resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. Each device measures 167.3 mm in height, 77 mm in width, and 8.2 mm in thickness, and weighs around 204 grams. Vivo has given both phones an IP64 rating, ensuring they are dust-tight and splash-resistant. The Y50 and Y50m come in three color options: Azure, Diamond Black, and Platinum.
Hardware and Software Overview:
Vivo has equipped both phones with the 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset and runs them on OriginOS 5. Users can choose between 128GB or 256GB of storage, with support for microSD card expansion on both models. The Y50 offers RAM options of 4GB, 6GB, 8GB, and 12GB, while the Y50m comes in 6GB, 8GB, and 12GB variants.
Cameras:
Vivo has equipped both devices with a basic camera setup, featuring a 13MP rear camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a 5MP front camera for selfies. Due to their entry-level positioning, the phones offer limited video capabilities.
Battery Life and Price Details:
Vivo has equipped both smartphones with a powerful 6,000 mAh battery, paired with 44W wired fast charging. This combination ensures extended usage on a single charge and relatively fast recharge times.
Vivo has priced the Y50 at approximately $165 for the 4GB + 128GB variant, $205 for the 6GB + 128GB model, $275 for the 8GB + 256GB version, and around $315 for the 12GB + 256GB option. The Y50m carries the same pricing, except it does not include the 4GB configuration.
The international release date for these devices remains unclear.
