The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has alerted WhatsApp users to watch out for scam messages sent from unknown local or international numbers. Scammers often impersonate WhatsApp’s official account and use the platform’s logo to appear authentic.
PTA warned that these WhatsApp scam messages usually contain suspicious URLs and falsely claim that the user’s account has violated policies or needs security verification. The authority strongly advised users not to click on these links, as they can lead to data theft or a complete account compromise.

PTA clarified that these scam attempts have no connection with WhatsApp and aim to deceive users into revealing sensitive information. It urged users to block such numbers immediately and report them using WhatsApp’s built-in reporting system to stay protected.

PTA issued this advisory on WhatsApp scam messages as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance digital safety. The authority urges users to stay vigilant when handling unsolicited or suspicious messages to avoid becoming victims of online fraud.
