FBR to launch Urdu digital invoicing system on PM’s orders

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized on Monday that the government must introduce Pakistan’s digital invoicing system in Urdu to make it more inclusive and user-friendly for all citizens.

Chairing a weekly review session in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reviewed the progress of FBR’s digitization drive. He assessed key initiatives including the digital invoicing system, AI-based assessment tools, simplified tax return forms, the e-Bilty (electronic freight documentation) process, a centralized Command and Control Center, and a cargo tracking system.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the launch of simplified tax return forms in Urdu and directed authorities to establish a dedicated helpline to assist citizens in filing their returns.

“Tax reforms must be centered around easing the burden on ordinary people,” the PM emphasized.

During the briefing, officials explained that the new digital tax return system, integrated with a central database, will make the filing process easier for taxpayers. They noted that salaried individuals will benefit the most, as the new return forms will become available on July 15, while other taxpayers will gain access starting July 30. Officials also confirmed that Urdu-language returns for salaried individuals will roll out by the end of the month.

The prime minister also ordered third-party validation of all FBR reforms to ensure full transparency and credibility. He further directed officials to launch a comprehensive nationwide campaign to educate citizens on using the digital invoicing system and the new tax return process effectively.
