PTA confirms Nationwide fibre installation to boost 4G speeds

The Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) briefed the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information Technology about the expansion of the country’s digital infrastructure.

He revealed that Pakistan has already laid 160,000 kilometers of fiber optic cable across the country. However, to meet the rising demand for high-speed internet and digital services, the government is actively expanding the network.

The chairman announced that three new submarine cables will become operational by the end of this year, significantly enhancing internet bandwidth and resolving connectivity issues across the country.

He added that the government is developing a comprehensive National Fiberization Plan, following the Prime Minister’s directive, to expand and modernize the fiber optic network.

“Without fiber, you simply can’t run 4G effectively,” the PTA chief stated. “That’s why we are actively working on a dedicated Fiberization Policy to ensure seamless connectivity across the country.”

The government expects this push to improve mobile data speeds and support the rollout of future technologies such as 5G, smart cities, and digital governance.
