PDMA releases initial report on monsoon losses in KP

PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a preliminary report detailing the human and material losses caused by monsoon rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the report, flash floods have claimed 11 lives and left six others injured. The deceased include 4 men, 3 women, and 4 children. Swat district has reportedly suffered the most damage due to heavy rains and flash flooding.

According to the PDMA, a total of 56 houses were damaged in the affected areas of the province, causing partial damage to 50 houses and 6 houses were completely destroyed.

The PDMA said that during the last 24 hours, there was a flood situation at Khwazakhela in the Swat River.

The PDMA also issued alerts to the district administration Nowshera and Charsadda in view of the flood threats and directed that the district administration ensure possible emergency measures or pre -flood security measures.

On the other hand, a search and rescue operation is ongoing to locate individuals swept away by flash floods in the Swat River.

According to local authorities, 15 tourists went missing during the flooding. Rescue 1122 teams have so far recovered 10 bodies, while the search continues for the remaining five missing persons.

Among the missing are two tourists from Mardan and three from Sialkot.

Rescue teams remain stationed along the Swat River, making determined efforts to locate the missing individuals.
