Tesla launches new look Model Y in China

Tesla has introduced an updated version of its Model Y in China, featuring a refreshed design and new features. This marks the first significant update for the SUV since its launch in 2020, as the company works to boost sales following a year-over-year decline in deliveries in 2024.

New Features of the Model Y

The updated Model Y, codenamed “Juniper,” brings a sleeker appearance with sharper edges on the front end, reminiscent of the updated Model 3.

The SUV’s previous bug-eye headlights have been replaced with a continuous light bar, a design element inspired by the Cybertruck and the Cybercab prototype. At the rear, a unique “cross-car lamp” replaces traditional tail lights, stretching across the hatch for a modern look.

Inside, the new Model Y includes an ambient light bar, powered rear seats, and a touchscreen display for rear passengers, adding a more comfortable and high-tech experience.

Availability of the New Model Y

Tesla plans to begin deliveries of the upgraded Model Y in China and select Asia-Pacific markets as early as March. However, it remains uncertain when this updated version will be available in European and US markets.

This release is part of Tesla’s efforts to refresh all its core electric vehicle (EV) models, including the Model Y, Model 3, Model S, and Model X. The only new product launch since the Model Y has been the Cybertruck.
