Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 series is set to bring a significant upgrade to its display technology. Reports suggest that both the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Air (which is expected to replace the Plus variant) will finally feature a 120Hz refresh rate.
Currently, the standard iPhone models come with a 60Hz refresh rate, while the Pro versions already offer 120Hz displays. Although the exact specifications for the iPhone 17 are not confirmed, a Chinese digital outlet has indicated that a faster refresh rate will be part of the upgrade for the upcoming model.
A potential question remains whether the iPhone 17 will also adopt Apple’s ProMotion display technology, which is currently available on the Pro models. This would provide users with a smoother, more fluid experience, as well as an always-on display capability. However, to support this, the iPhone 17 models will require LTPO panels. If included, this feature may bridge the gap between the standard iPhone 17 models and the Pro variants.
Earlier, analyst Ross Young predicted that both the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air would incorporate ProMotion displays. However, Apple has not officially confirmed these plans, and we can expect more details once the iPhone 17 series is officially revealed, with the release anticipated in September 2025.
