Aleem Khan terms resumption of PIA flights to Europe positive development

The Federal Minister for Privatization, Board of Investment, and Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, has termed the resumption of PIA flights to Europe a positive development.

Speaking about the progress in the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Abdul Aleem Khan stated that the launch of this flight operation is a significant milestone for the airline’s privatization. He noted, “Now people are assured that they can travel to Europe via PIA.”

The minister expressed optimism, saying, “Insha’Allah, we will soon have good news about PIA becoming operational in the UK and the USA as well.” He added that several obstacles in PIA’s privatization have been resolved, and the process is now moving forward rapidly.

Abdul Aleem Khan also revealed that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved two key issues related to the airline’s sale: the removal of the 18% sales tax on new aircraft purchases and the transfer of all PIA losses to a holding company.

He assured that PIA will be sold without any outstanding liabilities. “With these reforms, PIA’s acquisition will become more attractive to investors,” he stated. The minister emphasized that privatization efforts are progressing swiftly, promising good news in the near future.
