Threads introduces media resharing feature to stay ahead of rivals

Threads, the Meta-owned platform, has rolled out a major update, allowing users to reshare photos and videos with their captions while crediting the original creator.

This move aims to boost Threads’ appeal against competitors like X (formerly Twitter) and the growing popularity of Bluesky.

According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, the new feature enables users to add their creative captions to trending media without including the original post.

The creator’s username will appear in the top-left corner of the reshared media, alongside a repost counter in the lower left. Users can tap the username to view all posts using the media, with the original appearing at the top.

This update addresses the issue of reposting without credit. Creators will now receive notifications when their content is reused and can disable resharing from account settings.

To use this feature, users can long-press a photo or video or tap the repost button, then select “use media” to add text and share the post.

Threads’ new feature mirrors X’s similar option for videos, which credits the original post. With this update, Threads aims to enhance user engagement and retain its competitive edge in the social media landscape.
