Reports suggest that Jim Carrey has changed his previously announced retirement plans. The veteran star shared the reason behind his decision to reprise his role as Doctor Robotnik in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”.
During a conversation with the Associated Press at the movie’s UK premiere on Tuesday, December 10, Carrey explained that he returned to the “Sonic the Hedgehog” universe because, firstly, he gets to portray a “genius, which is a bit of a stretch.” The actor added, “And, you know, I bought a lot of stuff, and I need the money, frankly. Yeah.”
According to sources, while promoting the sequel to “The Truman Show”, the star mentioned to *Access Hollywood* that he planned to retire from acting.
The “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” star explained that it depended on the circumstances. If angels brought him a script “written in gold ink” that convinced him it was truly essential for people to see, he might continue acting. He added, “But I’m taking a break.”
During the December 10 UK premiere of his latest film, Carrey laughed when the Associated Press asked about his earlier statements, responding, “That might have been hyperbole.”
The actor reportedly plays more than one role in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”, including Gerald Robotnik, the grandfather of his villainous character. The film’s director, Jeff Fowler, told a private magazine that creating an entirely new character within this world was an “exciting opportunity” for Carrey, who “went all in.”
