Samsung is keeping One UI 7, its upcoming Android-based interface, under wraps, with only a few leaks hinting at new icons and minor interface tweaks. However, a more notable revelation has surfaced on Samsung’s UK website: the discontinuation of DeX for Windows.
DeX, short for “Desktop eXperience,” allows Galaxy phone users to project their handset’s screen onto a PC window, facilitating file transfers and offering a desktop-like experience directly from their phones. This feature has been a valuable tool for users seeking greater functionality from their mobile devices.
According to a footnote on Samsung’s DeX page, “The DeX for PC on Windows OS will end support from the One UI 7 version. We encourage customers to connect mobile phones and PC through the Link to Windows feature”
While the decision might not come as a surprise, it marks a significant shift for DeX users on Windows. Samsung’s move to promote Link to Windows as an alternative seems logical, given its seamless integration with the Windows environment and compatibility with various devices beyond Samsung’s lineup.
As One UI 7 approaches, users may need to adapt to this change and explore new ways to connect their devices for a seamless experience.
