Minister of State for IT and Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, announced plans to improve the country’s internet and telecom infrastructure. She assured that efforts are underway to restore fast internet speeds and strengthen the telecom sector.

In an interview, Shaza highlighted her ministry’s commitment to maintaining seamless industry operations. She also noted the rise in cyberattacks and stressed that the government is taking strong actions to boost cybersecurity and protect the digital space.

She reaffirmed the government’s priority to support the IT and telecom sectors by upgrading systems. Key measures include improving mobile tower density, expanding broadband access, and tackling cybersecurity challenges to provide better internet coverage, support economic growth, and ensure online safety for citizens.

Addressing concerns about internet issues, Shaza said the Interior Ministry has instructed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to investigate and resolve problems, such as disruptions in video sharing, while maintaining optimal internet speed.

She acknowledged ongoing challenges but assured that the government is working diligently to resolve them. Shaza also emphasized that while digital platforms are vital for expression, their temporary unavailability does not restrict freedom of speech.

The government is also focusing on upgrading its web management systems to counter cyberattacks and terrorist threats effectively.

Additionally, Shaza announced plans to expand 4G and 5G services across Pakistan by April. She highlighted that the IT and export sectors have shown remarkable growth, with a 40% increase in recent months.
