ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s textile exports have grown by 10.44 percent during the first four months of the current financial year (2024-25), as compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

From July to October 2024, textile exports reached a total of US $6,146.1 million, up from US $5,565.1 million during the same period in 2023. This increase was driven by a rise in the export of several key textile products.

Cotton cloth exports saw a modest increase of 5.25 percent, rising to $679.4 million from $645.5 million. Knitwear exports surged by 18.69 percent, reaching $1,760 million, compared to $1,482.9 million last year. Other significant contributors included bed wear, which grew by 13.17 percent to $1,069.7 million, and towels, which saw a 5.47 percent increase to $356.5 million.

Tents, canvas, and tarpaulin exports also grew by 7.02 percent, totaling $40.4 million, while readymade garments saw a substantial rise of 25.4 percent, reaching $1,358.9 million. Other textile products such as art, silk, synthetic textiles, and made-up articles (excluding towels and bed wear) also experienced growth.

However, not all textile commodities saw growth. Cotton yarn exports declined by 45.49 percent, dropping to $221.8 million from $407.6 million, and the export of raw cotton fell by 100 percent, going from $23.3 million to zero.

In terms of year-on-year growth, textile exports in October 2024 saw an increase of 13.11 percent, reaching $1,625.8 million, up from $1,437.3 million in October 2023. On a month-on-month basis, however, there was a slight decrease of 1.30 percent compared to September 2024, when textile exports stood at $1,604.9 million.
