She suggested they might not fit into modern relationships. Celebrating the film’s 29th anniversary, she expressed that the genuine love these characters shared would be hard to find today.
During an appearance on the fourth season of Expresso, Kajol was asked how Raj and Simran would be in 2024. She said, “Raj and Simran would not exist today. They would WhatsApp each other and make sure they had four other options. Simran would have Harish, Sanjay, and others on a dating line, and Raj would have the same.” She concluded that she doesn’t believe their love story could exist in the current dating scene, which she described as “benching” in Gen Z terms.
This perspective may disappoint fans who cherish the romantic ideals of the original film. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge holds the record as the longest-running film in Indian cinema and continues to attract audiences at Mumbai’s Maratha Mandir theater.
