Tesla, the renowned electric car manufacturer, has announced a recall of 120,000 more vehicles due to faulty doors. This recall comes just a week after the company recalled nearly 2 million vehicles in the U.S. over issues with its Autopilot system.

The defect, detected in certain Tesla models, could cause doors to automatically open during a crash, posing a serious safety risk. The affected models include the Tesla Model S and Model X produced between 2021 and 2023, according to a report from Business Insider.

Tesla engineers discovered that a cabin door on the non-struck side of the vehicle could unlatch after impact. This issue was found during inspections earlier this month and was linked to software updates from late September 2021, which inadvertently excluded the necessary lockout functionality.

Tesla will notify affected vehicle owners on February 17, 2024, and will provide a free over-the-air software update to fix the problem. The company confirmed that there have been no reports of injuries or warranty claims related to this defect.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is currently reviewing Tesla’s solution, having recently received the software update for testing.

The recall affects Tesla Model S (2012-2023), Model X (2016-2023), Model 3 (2017-2023), and Model Y (2020-2023) vehicles equipped with Autosteer.
