Google is reportedly testing a new AI button on its smartphone lock screen to stay competitive in the AI space. The tech giant aims to integrate its Gemini AI assistant into the core of the Android operating system for a more enhanced, AI-driven user experience.
According to Android Authority, the AI button, seen in the Android 15 QPR1 beta, could provide users with quick access to AI features. Positioned just below the fingerprint reader, the pill-shaped button is larger than the standard lock screen shortcuts and features a sparkle icon in the center.
While the button is not currently functional in the beta version, it is expected to trigger various AI tools powered by Gemini once fully integrated. This addition would offer a faster, more seamless way to interact with the AI assistant.
Currently, users can access Google’s Gemini AI through several methods, including pressing and holding the power or home buttons. With the new AI button, the process could become even more streamlined.
