ISLAMABAD: The Federal cabinet delays decision to ban PTI, invoke Article 6 against PTI leaders founder Imran Khan, former president Dr. Arif Alvi, and ex-deputy NA speaker Qasim Suri.

Sources indicate that the government will first consult with the Pakistan People’s Party and other coalition parties. The issue of banning PTI will be discussed in a cabinet meeting following these consultations.

During a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned PTI’s propaganda against Pakistan’s armed forces, stating it will not be tolerated.

He stressed the importance of unity against such campaigns, highlighting the sacrifices made by the armed forces in combating terrorism to maintain peace and stability.

Expressing serious concerns about the recent increase in terrorist activities in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Prime Minister suggested these acts are part of an organized conspiracy.

He mentioned the involvement of the TTP in these attacks and declared that terrorism from a neighboring country is unacceptable.

While emphasizing Pakistan’s readiness to protect its citizens, he also expressed a preference for addressing the issue through negotiations and peaceful means, noting that direct and indirect contacts are being made.

Previously, the federal government had announced its intention to ban PTI and initiate Article 6 proceedings against Imran Khan, Dr. Arif Alvi, and Qasim Suri.

This announcement followed the top court’s decisions in the reserved seats case and the Iddat case favoring PTI and its founder.

At a press conference, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated that the country could not progress with PTI’s existence. Citing the foreign funding case, May 9 riots, and the cipher case, along with a resolution passed in the US, he claimed there was credible evidence to ban PTI.

He added that the government believes Article 17 of the Constitution supports banning political parties, and this matter will be referred to the Supreme Court.
