KARACHI: The Sindh Transport Department is set to announce three new routes for the Peoples Bus Service in Karachi.
According to Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, the first new route from Hawksbay to Tower will begin on July 22. Following this, the Peoples Bus Service will extend Route 12 to start from Qaidabad, Korangi, and Memon Goth to Tower from July 23, replacing the earlier route from Khokhrapar.
Starting from July 24, an electric bus route will launch connecting Kathore to Numaish. Additionally, from July 25, a new route will operate from Yousuf Goth to Tower. These additions aim to offer cost-effective transportation options to Karachi’s residents.
The transport minister emphasized that the introduction of these routes is part of a broader plan to improve the public transport system in Karachi. More buses and routes are expected to be introduced in the future to further enhance the city’s transportation network.
Last month, the Sindh government unveiled plans to enhance the Peoples Bus Service, focusing on addressing transport challenges in Karachi. Minister Memon detailed initiatives to introduce more routes, following discussions with elected MPAs from Karachi, the deputy mayor, and other officials. They agreed to launch new routes covering Malir, Kemari, Lyari, and District West, with a particularly noteworthy addition being a route from Numaish to Hawksbay.
