Karachi is gearing up for heavy rains as the monsoon season sets in across Pakistan. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued forecasts predicting rain across various regions, including Islamabad, Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Showers are also expected in eastern Balochistan, offering hope for relief from the current heatwave gripping Karachi.
According to the PMD’s latest advisory, Karachi and surrounding areas such as Thatta, Sajawal, Hyderabad, Dadu, Badin, Tharparkar, Umarkot, Mithi, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, and Nawabshah may experience rain later today or tonight. This anticipated rainfall is eagerly awaited to alleviate the intense heat prevailing in the city.
However, with the arrival of the monsoon season comes the potential for flooding. The PMD has issued alerts for rivers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Mount Sulaiman. Monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are moving towards the upper and central parts of the country, coupled with a westerly wave expected to impact these regions starting tonight.
