The PML-N led government has officially sanctioned a significant increase in the base tariff of electricity, raising the per unit price by up to Rs7.12, effective July 1, 2024. As a result, electricity consumers will face higher bills in August 2024, adding to their financial burden amid rising inflation.
A notification from the Finance Division indicated that lifeline consumers using up to 50 units per month will continue to pay the previous rate of Rs3.95 per unit. However, for those consuming up to 100 units per month, the per unit price will be Rs7.74.
The government has also provided relief to consumers using up to 200 units per month, exempting them from the revised rates for three months, or until September 2024. Those using between 200 to 300 units per month will experience the highest increase of Rs7.12 per unit, with the new price set at Rs34.26.
Consumers using between 301 and 400 units will see an increase of Rs7.02, bringing the rate to Rs39.15 per unit on their August 2024 electricity bill. For those using between 401 and 500 units, the rate will be Rs41.36 per unit after an increase of Rs6.12. The rate for consumers using between 501 and 600 units will rise to Rs42.78 per unit, also with an increase of Rs6.12.
For those consuming between 601 and 700 units, the new rate will be Rs43.92 per unit. Consumers using more than 700 units will face a rate of Rs48.84 per unit after a Rs6.12 hike. Additionally, the government has announced new fixed charges for electricity consumers.
Calculate Electricity Bill of 301-400 Units for July 2024
For this category, the Finance Division has increased the base electricity price by Rs7.02 to Rs39.15 per unit. If you use 397 units in July 2024, the electricity cost under the new base tariff will be Rs15,542.55 (397 * Rs39.15).
For consumption between 301 and 400 units, a fixed charge of Rs 200 will be imposed, making the total bill Rs15,742.55 after including the fixed charges.
This calculation does not include FC Surcharge, Fuel Price Adjustment, Quarterly Adjustment, TV Fee, and other duties and taxes.
