As Muharram progresses across Pakistan, the government has decided to implement strict measures to ensure security during the solemn processions and gatherings. Cellular phone services will be suspended nationwide during the Muharram processions, with internet services also halted in areas along the main procession routes on Youm-e-Ashura.
In Balochistan, Home Minister Meer Zia Ullah Langau confirmed that Quetta will experience similar suspensions on Muharram 7 (July 14, Sunday) and 10 (July 17, Wednesday) from 6 a.m. to midnight. Likewise, Peshawar’s Capital City Police have announced mobile phone service suspensions on Muharram 9 and 10 (July 17 and 18, Tuesday and Wednesday) to uphold security measures during this holy period.
Throughout the country, cellular services will only be suspended in areas directly affected by the procession routes to maintain peace and security. Muharram commenced on July 8 following the sighting of the lunar crescent in Pakistan.

During Muharram, faithful communities across Pakistan hold processions and majalis, attended by religious scholars addressing large gatherings under tight security.
