Rain Hits Karachi as Dark Clouds Appear in the City

Karachi’s skyline has undergone a transformation with the arrival of heavy, dark clouds marking the onset of the monsoon season. Today, areas such as Surjani Town, New Karachi, and North Karachi are experiencing strong winds and intense rainfall. The dark clouds are accompanied by dusty winds, significantly altering the city’s usual weather patterns.

In neighborhoods like Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Malir Memon Goth, Gulshan-e-Maimar, Surjani Town, North Nazimabad, and Nazimabad, residents are encountering the full impact of the monsoon, with torrential rains and gusty winds. Meanwhile, lighter drizzles are gently falling in areas like I.I. Chundrigar Road, Saddar, and the Old City area, bringing a refreshing change.

Earlier today, Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz predicted Karachi’s first monsoon rain. Speaking with Geo News, he mentioned that while Karachi will primarily experience light showers, some areas could see moderate rainfall. He clarified that no heavy rainfall is expected in Karachi or throughout Sindh until at least July 20, although he hinted at the possibility of more intense rains later in July and into August.

The monsoon’s arrival has also affected Karachi’s coastal breezes, with the usually brisk sea winds slowing down due to low air pressure. This has contributed to increased heat and humidity in the city. Over the coming days, Karachi residents can anticipate higher temperatures, a trend Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz attributes to rising humidity levels similar to those experienced in June.

As July progresses, Karachi’s weather patterns are clearly evolving, with residents preparing for the characteristic monsoon combination of rain and heat that defines this time of year. With heavy rains anticipated later in the month, Karachi continues to adjust to the shifting rhythms of the monsoon season.
