Karachi, after enduring a prolonged period of intense heat, is poised for a welcome change with the prediction of monsoon showers from July 8 to 10. A local weather authority has indicated that the city might experience light rain by this evening or night, with the possibility of a thunderstorm developing in the northeast.
Temperatures are expected to range between 37°C and 39°C, with the heat likely intensifying throughout the day. Confirmations have been made that there might be light rainfall tonight, yet the overall conditions are anticipated to stay hot and humid for the next day.
Current observations note westerly winds at a speed of 17 kilometers per hour and a humidity level of 74%, with temperatures potentially reaching up to 37°C.
In anticipation of the monsoon, the Cantonment Board Clifton in Karachi has declared a rain emergency within its domain, organizing special squads to ensure efficient rainwater drainage. According to a spokesperson, 1,288 personnel have been designated for emergency duties, including 638 across seven sectors and 650 for water drainage tasks.
The authority has identified vulnerable low-lying areas and has allocated specific teams to manage potential rain impact in various localities, including DHA Phases I to VIII, Clifton Blocks 8 and 9, and the market zone. Heavy machinery and additional teams are set to be stationed in key commercial areas to manage the situation.
