In the wake of India’s triumph in the T20 World Cup 2024, there’s a palpable buzz as Indian fans are keenly anticipating more high-voltage matches. This enthusiasm is reflected in the unprecedented increase in ticket purchases from India for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with sales soaring to six times the previous figures.
Cricket Australia has announced this significant uptick in interest through a press statement.
“The excitement surrounding the fierce rivalry between India and Australia has led to a record-breaking six times increase in the number of tickets bought by fans in India compared to last season,” they noted.
Comparing to the 2018/19 season, the Boxing Day Test has witnessed a remarkable tenfold rise in ticket acquisitions by Indian fans, the organization revealed.
Joel Morrison, Cricket Australia’s General Manager of Events & Operations, shared his enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to see so many Indian fans planning to travel to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. They can expect a very warm welcome here.”
Cricket Australia is also enhancing the fan experience by debuting Indian Fan Zones during a Test series in Australia for the first time, aiming to cultivate a lively and hospitable environment that encourages community and festivity among Indian spectators at every match venue.
“Additionally, there has been a strong demand from corporate groups travelling from India, particularly for Hospitality and Premium Experience packages for the Boxing Day Test,” they affirmed.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is set to begin with the first Test from November 22 to 26 at Perth Stadium. The second Test will unfold from December 6 to 10 at Adelaide Oval, promising an exciting day-night encounter. The third Test is scheduled at The Gabba, Brisbane, from December 14 to 18.
The series will then move to the Melbourne Cricket Ground for the traditional Boxing Day Test from December 26 to 30, before reaching its climax with the fifth Test from January 3 to 7 at the Sydney Cricket Ground, setting the stage for a potentially thrilling finale.
