Significant rain expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Pakistan

Rains and thunderstorms to bring relief to Karachi today!

  • Karachi will have thunderstorms and rain showers on Thursday and Friday.
  • Thunderstorms will come before the rain showers in the city’s suburbs.
  • A low-pressure system south of India’s Gujarat is influencing the weather.

Karachi is expected to receive thunderstorms and rain showers on Thursday and Friday, providing much-needed relief from the extreme heat that has gripped the metropolis. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), these weather changes will bring a welcome break from the sweltering conditions.

The Met Office forecasts that thunderstorms will precede the rain showers, with precipitation expected in the afternoon and evening in the city’s suburbs. On Wednesday, a dust storm swept through parts of Karachi, exacerbating the hot and humid weather.

Earlier in the week, the PMD had predicted isolated heavy downpours and dust storms for various parts of Sindh, including Karachi. This prediction follows a “feels like” temperature of 51 °C recorded in the city around 2 p.m. on Monday.

Chief Meteorologist Karachi, Sardar Sarfaraz, explained that a low-pressure system situated south of India’s Gujarat is influencing the current weather patterns. “Under this system, there is a likelihood of thunderstorms and rain in Karachi between June 26 and July 1,” he said.

In addition to Karachi, several other areas in Sindh are expected to experience strong winds, dust storms, and thunderstorms. These areas include Mithi, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Tando Allahyar, Badin, Thatta, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Naushahro Feroze, Khairpur, and Dadu.

Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather information and take the necessary precautions to stay safe during these weather changes.
