ISLAMABAD – Rain-wind/thunderstorms are anticipated in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and various parts of Pakistan on Thursday evening/night, continuing through Friday and Saturday.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reports that moist currents from the Arabian Sea are penetrating southern and central Pakistan, while a shallow westerly wave is affecting the southern and upper regions.

Under these conditions, isolated rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and northeast Balochistan from Thursday evening through Saturday. Northeast Balochistan, central and upper Punjab, and south Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa may also experience hailstorms and heavy rainfall during this period. Hot and dry weather is expected elsewhere in the country.

Islamabad’s maximum temperature is forecasted to range between 39-41°C on Friday and 41-43°C on Saturday. In Rawalpindi, the maximum temperature is expected to be between 38-40°C on both days.

In the past 24 hours, windstorm/thunderstorm rains occurred in Punjab, northeast Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, while hot and dry weather prevailed in other regions. Rainfall measurements include:

Punjab: Lahore (AP 33mm, various other locations ranging from 1-15mm), Layyah 27mm, Jhelum 15mm, Gujranwala 13mm, Mangla 12mm, and several other locations with lesser amounts.

Balochistan: Barkhan 10mm

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa: Parachinar 6mm, Dera Ismail Khan (5mm at A/P, 4mm in the city), Kalam 4mm, Bannu 2mm

Kashmir: Garhi Dupatta 1mm

Gilgit-Baltistan: Astore 1mm

The hottest places in the country were Gwadar, Sibbi, and Turbat, each recording a maximum temperature of 48°C. Pasni recorded 46°C, while Jacobabad, Jiwani, and Lasbella reached 45°C. In Islamabad, the maximum temperature was 38°C with a morning relative humidity of 38%. In Rawalpindi, the maximum temperature was 37°C, with a morning relative humidity of 30%.
