Apple iPhones New Tax Rates in Pakistan After Budget 2024–25

  • Federal government proposes taxes on mobile phones, including Apple iPhones.
  • If approved, new tax rates for Apple iPhones in Pakistan will start on July 1, 2024.
  • Local smartphones also face an 18% tax rate as per the proposal.

The federal government in Islamabad has suggested taxes on mobile phones, including Apple iPhones, in the latest budget proposal for 2024–25, pending approval from the parliament.

If the proposals are approved, new tax rates for Apple iPhones in Pakistan will take effect starting on July 1, 2024.

As per the Finance Bill 2024, the government has suggested a 25% ad valorem tax on imported smartphones priced above $500, while all phones priced below $500 will have a standard 18% sales tax.

The proposal is expected to impact the prices of Apple iPhones significantly since the company doesn’t have an official presence in Pakistan and its devices are imported for sale in the local market.

Locally manufactured and supplied smartphones will also face an 18% tax rate, as per the proposal.

Prices of these iPhone models are expected to increase in Pakistan starting July 1.

The prices of the iPhone 11, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 15 Pro are anticipated to rise in Pakistan should the proposal to raise the sales tax rate to 25% for phones priced above $500 be approved.
