Chicken meat prices surge again in Lahore

LAHORE:  Chicken meat prices have surged again, climbing by Rs 15 per kg. The new broiler chicken meat price is Rs 509 per kg.

Meanwhile, the wholesale rate of live broiler chicken has been fixed at Rs 338 per kg, with the retail rate at Rs 351 per kg. The cost of farm eggs remains unchanged at Rs 246 per dozen.

In broader economic news, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics released its Sensitive Price Index (SPI) report on June 13.

According to the report, essential commodity prices have increased by 1.30% weekly and 23.03% annually. Over the past week, prices for eight daily-use items fell, 24 items saw no change, and 19 items experienced price hikes.

Price drops were observed in onions (5%), red chili powder (1.95%), broken basmati rice (1.65%), garlic (1.32%), regular rice (1.08%), bread (0.52%), flour (0.05%), and sugar (0.02%). Conversely, significant price increases included tomatoes (27.14%), chicken (11.75%), electricity for the lowest income group (8.73%), gram dal (7.19%), LPG (6.14%), eggs (3.70%), bananas (3.22%), and beef (1.52%).

The SPI revealed an increase of 1.01% for the lowest income group with a monthly income of Rs 17,732, and respective increases of 1.31%, 1.11%, 1.07%, and 1.29% for groups with higher monthly incomes of Rs 17,733 to 22,888, Rs 22,889 to 29,517, Rs 29,518 to 44,175, and above.

This inflationary trend highlights the ongoing challenges consumers face, particularly those in lower income brackets.
