Aasif Sheikh and AK Sah’s partnership brought Nepal to 85-2, but South Africa’s Tabraiz Shamsi, with 4-19 in four overs, and Ottneil Baartman’s composed final over ensured their win.
The last ball drama saw Gulsan Jha miss a run-scoring opportunity, leading to a run-out and South Africa’s victory.
Reflecting on the match, South Africa captain Markram stated, “Very grateful to have got the win, we were not near our best tonight. Reflecting back on the game over the next few days, there will be a lot of learnings for us.”
He also mentioned potential changes and the importance of adaptability in cricket.
Nepal had initially opted to field after winning the toss. South Africa’s innings was highlighted by Reeza Hendricks’ 43 runs and Tristan Stubbs’ 27*, while Nepal’s Kushal Bhurtel and Dipendra Singh Airee kept their scoring in check.
