FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers: Harun Hamid to miss upcoming matches

  • Harun Hamid ruled out of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers due to injury.
  • Hamid’s goal against Cambodia helped Pakistan reach the second round of qualifiers.
  • Pakistan currently trails in Group G with losses in all four matches.

Harun Hamid, the renowned midfielder for Pakistan, has been declared unavailable for the forthcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers against Saudi Arabia and Tajikistan due to an injury sustained prior to joining the national team’s current training camp.

Hamid’s pivotal goal against Cambodia propelled Pakistan into the second round of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, marking a historic first for the nation.

Following a fitness evaluation, Pakistan’s medical team has decided to exclude Hamid from the lineup.

Currently, Pakistan is trailing in Group G, having faced defeats in all their four encounters. Their campaign commenced with a loss to Saudi Arabia, followed by a defeat against Tajikistan, both in November. Subsequent losses to Jordan, both at home and away, have further challenged the team.

The Pakistani squad is scheduled to compete against Saudi Arabia on June 6 and Tajikistan on June 11 for their concluding matches of the second round.

Trishan Patel, the assistant coach and Performance Analyst for Pakistan’s football team, expressed optimism about the team’s upcoming performance against Saudi Arabia, stating, “Saudi Arabia is a fantastic team. However, we will approach every game with excitement, determination, and fight, never with fear. Although our last two qualifying matches were disappointing, I believe that in the final two games, we will display a more committed team with a greater tactical understanding,” as reported by the Pakistan Football Federation.

Patel also emphasized the importance of strategic clarity both with and without ball possession when facing formidable opponents like Saudi Arabia. He highlighted the intensive training efforts of the players and the team’s focus on continuous improvement and effective training to ensure positive progress.
