ISLAMABAD: PTI Information Secretary Rauf Hassan was injured in a blade attack, here on Tuesday.
Some unknown transgenders assaulted the PTI leader with a blade outside a private TV channel and fled safely.
The police said that information about the attack are being collected.
According to media reports, Rauf Hassan was also attacked by unknown transgenders on Monday night when he was leaving a media house after an interview.
An eye witness said that some transgenders attacked the PTI leader but escaped unhurt. The attackers fled away.
Meanwhile, the PTI in ongoing session of the senate protested against the attack and boycotted the session.
The assailants used a sharp blade to attack the PTI leader, causing injuries to his face. After the attack, the perpetrators fled the scene.
In a statement on X, PTI condemned the incident as “extremely shameful and deplorable,” noting, “Central Information Secretary Raoof Hasan was attacked by unknown persons outside the office of a private channel.”
The party also shared a video showing Hasan bleeding from the face with anchor Shahid Masood by his side.
PTI asserted that “such shameful tactics will not deter Rauf Hasan or the PTI from our cause. Attempts to intimidate or silence us will only strengthen our resolve to fight for a just and equitable society.”
Senator Shibli Faraz, Opposition Leader in the Upper House of Parliament, addressed the incident in the Senate, calling it “unacceptable” and stating, “The spokesperson for the largest party of Pakistan has been attacked. This is shameful and unacceptable.”
Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar responded by saying, “The opposition leader has just shared this matter. Who attacked, where the attack occurred – these issues will be examined as per law. Rauf Hasan should file a report, and action will be taken according to the law.”
He also assured that he would inform the house after obtaining a report from the IG Islamabad or the relevant officials.
Meanwhile, PTI senators staged a walkout from the Senate session, protesting the attack on their party’s spokesperson and demanding action against those responsible.
