Meta AI is a new personal assistant feature available in Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, designed to help users with various tasks and information within these apps. While there is no current option to completely disable Meta AI, you can mute its notifications if they become distracting. Here’s how to mute Meta AI on each app:
Mute Meta AI on Facebook:
- Open the Facebook app and tap the search bar at the top right.
- Tap the Meta AI icon (it may look like a chat bubble) to start a chat.
- Tap the ‘i’ icon in the top right corner and select ‘Mute’.
- Choose the duration for which you want to mute Meta AI (options include 15 minutes, one hour, eight hours, 24 hours, or until you unmute it).
Mute Meta AI on Instagram:
- Open Instagram and tap the search bar at the bottom or the message icon at the top right.
- Tap the Meta AI icon to start a chat.
- Tap the ‘i’ icon in the top right corner and select ‘Mute Messages’.
- Choose the duration for which you want to mute Meta AI (options include one hour, eight hours, 24 hours, or until you unmute it).
Mute Meta AI on WhatsApp:
- Open WhatsApp and go to the Chats tab.
- Tap the Meta AI icon at the top of your chat list.
- Tap the Meta AI profile picture at the top.
- Select ‘Mute’ and choose the duration for which you want to mute it (options include eight hours, one week, or always).
Is Muting Meta AI Necessary?
Meta AI will only send notifications when you start a chat with it, so muting may not be necessary unless you find its notifications bothersome. Privacy concerns are understandable, and many users hope Meta will introduce an option to fully disable Meta AI in the future, similar to the removal of My AI on Snapchat. For now, muting is the only way to stop Meta AI notifications.
