LAHORE – The Punjab government has announced new school timings to protect children and staff from the scorching heat as temperatures soar to 45 degrees Celsius.
According to a notification from the School Education Department, classes in Punjab schools will now start at 7:00 am and end at 11:30 am, with classes on Fridays concluding at 10:30 am.
These new timings are effective for the month of May, with summer vacations set to begin on June 1, 2024, as extreme temperatures affect parts of the country.
Punjab Heatwave Alert
The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a heatwave alert for Punjab from May 21 to 27, with temperatures expected to be six degrees above normal.
The PDMA has notified various departments, including health, irrigation, construction, and communications, and advised the public to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions during the expected heatwave and temperature fluctuations.
