PHC orders speaker KP to take oath from women, minority members

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) ordered Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to administrate oath from women and minority members of the opposition on reserved seats.

Peshawar High Court Justice SM Attique Shah wrote the 24-page judgment.

In the verdict, the court ordered the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the provincial cabinet to take steps to convene the assembly session.

According to the text of the decision, under Article 105 of the Constitution, a meeting of the KP Assembly should be called within 14 days and the newly elected members should be sworn in before the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senate elections.

In the decision, it has been ordered that the Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly administer oath to the elected members on reserved seats.

It has been said in the judgment that it is a violation of the constitution to prevent newly elected members from taking oath on certain seats.
