The automotive industry is undergoing an electric vehicle (EV) revolution, with numerous car manufacturers unveiling their exclusive electric models.

As competition intensifies, Pakistan is also embracing this revolution, with many local car manufacturers introducing their EVs to the market. Given that most of these manufacturers are newcomers, selecting the right one can be challenging.

1-Hyundai iONIQ 5

iONIQ 5 is Hyundai’s reply to the electric revolution and one of the new entrant electric cars in Pakistan’s EV market. It was launched worldwide in May 2021, and Hyundai Nishat Motors seems interested in bringing it to Pakistan now. Currently, they have imported a single demo unit to test it on Pakistan’s environment and roads. Moreover, according to the company, they have started the bookings of iONIQ 5 on Mar 1, 2024, with a delivery ETA of 4-5 months.

From its looks and interior, one can tell that it is a futuristic car due to its unconventional design. You get square-shaped parametric pixel dual LED DRLs, spiral accents on the side views, and a pixelated taillight design, giving the car a truly smart EV design.

Under the floor, Hyudai offers a 72.6 kWh Li-Ion battery that gives you a range of 430 Km and electric motors that produce 225 HP of power and 605 Nm of torque.

2-Hyundai iONIQ 6

iONIQ 6 is another new entrant in the Hyundai’s EV lineup. From a technical perspective, it’s the upgraded variant of iONIQ 5 with different aesthetics and better performance figures. Exterior-wise, it’s a curvy body, opposite from the iONIQ 5, which was based on a boxy-shaped interior. Talking about the interior, Hyundai calls it a “mindful cocoon-like interior.” Just like the iONIQ 5, Hyundai Nishat Motors stated that the iONIQ 6’s booking started on March 1st, 2024, with a delivery ETA of 4-5 months.

It’s an AWD vehicle with 77.4 kWh and 277 kW of power output, producing 239 HP of power and 605 Nm of torque with a range capacity of 500-550 Km.

3-Toyota Corolla Cross

Corolla Cross is based on Toyota’s 12th generation Corolla. It is a hybrid of crossover, HEV, and Corolla and was introduced in Pakistan in April 2021. For two years, Toyota Indus Motors offered the CBU unit, but in December 2023, IMC introduced the CKD unit of the Corolla Cross with 50% locally made parts.

Additionally, the vehicle is based on an all-new TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture), which is designed to improve its efficiency, flexibility, durability, and performance.

On the interior side, Toyota is always known for making premium, high-quality interiors. The car offers a Terra Rossa interior with leather finishing on the steering, seats, and dashboard.

Under the hood, you get a 1.8-liter 2ZR-FXE hybrid engine capable of producing 168 hp and 305 Nm torque mated with Direct Shift CVT transmission in all three trims.

4-GWM Tank 500 HEV

The Tankn 500 was unveiled at the Bangkok International Motor Show in Thailand in 2022. Later, in 2022, GWM announced that the Tank 500 HEV would be manufactured in Thailand and would be exported to Australia and New Zealand. However, before those Oceania countries, it was brought to Pakistan by Sazgar Enterprises (GWM’s local partners). Powered by a hybrid 2.0-liter engine that produces 346 HP of power and 658 Nm of torque with a 9-speed transmission and 4×4 drivetrain. From the exterior, it does give a solid, rough, and tough jeep look, and on the other hand, the interior is the complete opposite. From the woodwork dashboard and ultra-comfortable leather stitched sofa seats to the retro-style analog clock and 12-speaker combo, the car gives you the true experience of a luxury SUV.

5-Audi e-tron

The Audi e-tron was the first electric SUV vehicle introduced by Audi in 2019. Just a year later, Audi Pakistan introduced the e-tron in 2020 as a CBU unit. It was Audi’s response to the EV industry, and due to its value-for-money deal, it became one of the best-selling electric cars in Pakistan in the SUV category.

This fully electric vehicle is powered by a 230-300 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, an electric motor at the front axle, and a second electric motor at the rear axle. The system produces 308-408 HP of horsepower and 545 Nm of torque with a range of up to 417 Km. The car competes with the MG ZS EV, and soon, it’ll give tough competition to Hyundai’s iONIQ 5 and iONIQ 6.
