KARACHI: In the riverine regions of Kandhkot-Kashmore in Sindh, a primary schoolteacher fell victim to an attack by bandits, highlighting the ongoing challenges posed by dacoits despite numerous attempts to eradicate them.

The victim, identified as Allah Rakhiyo Nandwani, was ambushed while returning home from a cluster primary school in Nasrullah Khan Bijarani, an area notorious for dacoit activity, on March 18.

According to reports, the assailants intercepted Nandwani as he rode his motorcycle, fatally shooting him before fleeing the scene.

This tragic incident occurred shortly after a viral video depicted Nandwani’s daily commute to the school, where he was seen carrying a rifle for self-defense. Despite warnings from the police and education department about the dangers of the area, Nandwani expressed his determination to continue teaching for the sake of his students’ future.

In the video, Nandwani’s son was also shown accompanying him on the motorcycle, indicating that he too attended the same school.

Local authorities reported that the attack took place near Mandani check-post, prompting Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar to seek a report from Larkana Deputy Inspector General of Police Nasir Aftab within two days.

This incident underscores the apparent inability of the police to control the situation, with reports indicating that the entire district of Kashmore is under the control of dacoits.

Over the past year, dacoits in the riverine areas of Kandhkot-Kashmore have abducted more than 400 individuals, despite numerous operations conducted by Sindh Police. However, due to the lack of modern weaponry and equipment, including the inability of armored vehicles to navigate through the dense vegetation and sandy terrain, the police have been unable to effectively penetrate the hideouts of the dacoits.
