iPhone 16: leaked image shows new camera design

We might have seen the first sneak peek of the iPhone 16 lineup’s hardware. Today on social media, Majin Bu posted a picture claiming it’s the “new camera setup for the iPhone 16.” The picture shows the cameras arranged vertically, which matches what other rumors have said before.

iPhone 16 camera changes

This year, Apple altered the arrangement of the three camera lenses on the iPhone 15 Pro, stacking the Main and Ultra Wide cameras on top of each other. This adjustment allows the iPhone 15 Pro to capture spatial video for Vision Pro.

Currently, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have a camera layout where the Main and Ultra Wide lenses are positioned diagonally. It’s expected that by transitioning to a vertically-aligned design, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will also be capable of recording spatial video, similar to the current iPhone 15 Pro models.

The image shared by Majin Bu today adds more evidence that Apple is planning this change for the iPhone 16’s camera design. According to Marko Zivkovic at MacRumors, he can independently confirm the authenticity of the component design, which resembles layouts seen in previous iPhone models like the iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone 11.

Now that Vision Pro is available to buyers in the United States, Apple has a strong motivation to encourage users to capture Spatial Videos. This shift in the camera design for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will likely contribute significantly to that goal.
