Nokia introduces AI assistant for industrial workers

Nokia has introduced a new AI-powered tool called “MX Workmate” designed for industrial workers. This tool uses artificial intelligence to generate messages in real-time, alerting workers about potential issues with machinery and suggesting ways to improve factory productivity.

The MX Workmate builds upon Nokia’s existing communication technology used by industrial clients.

It utilizes advanced AI models to generate human-like text, providing early warnings about machine failures, recommendations for repairs, strategies to enhance production quality, and guidance for handling factory accidents.

According to Stephane Daeuble, Head of Enterprise Solutions Marketing at Nokia, the company’s goal is to assist workers in interpreting and utilizing data effectively.

Nokia already supplies 4G and 5G technology for internal communication and data connectivity in industrial settings.

While generative AI has gained attention for its ability to create human-like content, Nokia assures that its tool complies with operational technology regulations.

However, it acknowledges the need for thorough testing and refinement to ensure the tool’s effectiveness across different industries.

Nokia emphasizes the importance of accuracy, clarity, and accountability in AI-generated messages.

Initial safeguards, such as human validation of AI prompts, will be implemented to maintain trust and reliability.

“Maybe a year, a year and a half, before we see first real implementation,” he said.

Nokia will showcase the tool’s first versions at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in late February.
