Disappointed Fazl invites PML-N to sit on opposition benches

ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that his party fully rejects the outcomes of the general elections held on February 8 and invited PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif to join the opposition benches alongside the JUI-F.

He said this while addressing a press conference, here on Wednesday.

Fazl criticized the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), disputing its assertion that the elections were free and fair, alleging widespread rigging.

He claimed that the level of rigging in the 2024 elections surpassed that of the 2018 elections, expressing concern that democracy is losing its legitimacy and suggesting that decisions may now be made outside of the parliamentary framework. Rehman outlined his party’s future strategy, stating that they would participate in parliamentary proceedings but with reservations.

He accused external forces of conspiring against the JUI-F due to its stance against Israeli actions in Gaza and its support for Hamas. Rehman also criticized the ECP, questioning its impartiality and alleging that it dismissed petitions filed by JUI-F candidates.

Additionally, he announced a series of meetings across different regions and invited Nawaz Sharif to align with the opposition, claiming that election results indicated widespread bribery among successful and unsuccessful candidates.

When asked about supporting Shehbaz Sharif for the prime ministerial position, Rehman clarified that the JUI-F is not aligned with either the PPP or the PML-N and does not serve as a coalition partner in the government.
