- PCB will elect a new chairman on February 6th.
- 4 weeks have been given to choose a new board as per the constitution.
- Caretaker CM Naqvi is a possible frontrunner for the chairman position.
Election Commissioner Shah Khawar has called a special meeting of the Board of Governors (BoG) for February 6, 2024, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Monday.
The conference, which is scheduled to take place at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore (NCA), is intended to elect the PCB chairman.
“The notice of the meeting is issued as per the provisions of the constitution of the Pakistan Cricket Board 2014. It is mandatory for all the members of the BoG to attend the meeting in person,” PCB said in a statement.
The Board of Governors now stands as follows:
1. Mr Mustafa Ramday (PCB Patron’s nominee)
2. Mr Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi (PCB Patron’s nominee)
3. Mr Sajjad Ali Khokhar, President Regional Cricket Association AJK
4. Mr Zafarullah Jadgal, President Regional Cricket Association Dera Murad Jamali
5. Mr Tanveer Ahmed, President Regional Cricket Association Larkana
6. Mr Tariq Sarwar, President Regional Cricket Association Bahawalpur
7. Representative of Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL)
8. Representative of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP)
9. Representative of Ghani Glass Limited
10. Representative of Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV)
Recall that upon the nomination of Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, Zaka Ashraf, the previous chairman of the PCB Management Committee, resigned, and Mohsin Naqvi became the Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab.
Election Commissioner Shah Khawar is now in charge of the PCB’s operations following Ashraf’s resignation.
In the case that the Chairman position becomes empty, all functions are delegated to the Chief Election Commissioner in accordance with Clause 2 of Article 7 of the PCB Constitution. Shah Khawar has four weeks to finish the process of electing a new board as required by the constitution.
The current state of affairs has created the possibility of Naqvi becoming PCB Chairman. Naqvi, who had resigned as Punjab’s acting chief minister by that point, might take over as chairman a week after the results of the poll are announced if the February 8 election goes as scheduled.
