Christopher Roma, a 37-year-old experienced hiker born on April 19, 1986, tragically lost his life in New Hampshire’s White Mountains on January 17, 2024. On January 16, during his solo hike, he encountered difficulties and called for help, prompting a 911 response.

Rescue teams faced challenging conditions, including deep snow and strong winds near Mount Bond in Lincoln. Despite their efforts, it proved to be a tough task. The New Hampshire Army National Guard provided helicopter assistance for the rescue operation, and ground teams also attempted to reach him on Thursday. Fortunately, the helicopter successfully landed and recovered Christopher’s body at 8:30 a.m.

Christopher, survived by his 2-year-old son, leaves behind a grieving family. To support them during this difficult time, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up for contributions.

Known as an adept hiker who assisted others on trails, Christopher Roma met a tragic end while hiking alone in challenging conditions in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. Despite his familiarity with the trail, things took a turn for the worse.

Concerned friends called 911 around 10:20 p.m. on a Tuesday after an alarming conversation with Roma. Despite the cold weather, he managed to call for help and provided his location between Mount Bond and Mount Guyot.

Rescue efforts began at 2 a.m. on Wednesday, but the snow made it challenging. A National Guard helicopter attempted three times but faced difficulties due to clouds and poor visibility near Mount Guyot.

Regrettably, when the rescue team reached Roma at 5 p.m., he had succumbed to the harsh conditions. Fortunately, the helicopter successfully recovered his body on the morning of January 17, 2024, easing the burden for the rescuers.
