The heavy rains on Tuesday night lashed the Sector E11 of Islamabad inundated with fears of nullahs flooding.

President Arif Alvi in his tweet said, Islamabad is my city just like Karachi and all other lovely cities of Pakistan and he is ready with his boat if needed.

“Islamabad is my city just like Karachi and all other lovely cities of Pakistan. I am confident that Islamabad’s administration are doing their job well but if need be, I am ready with my boat,” he wrote.

It is to be noted that President Arif Alvi came out with his boat to rescue people in Karachi during the 2017 heavy showers of rain in Karachi when he was MNA.

Cloudburst In Islamabad Wreaks Havoc, Kills Two People

Heavy rains lashing Islamabad has left the city at the mercy of torrential streams inducing fears of high-level flooding of Nullah as Army teams and resources turn up to rescue people.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) teams are working to clear the roads. All the teams are in the field to clear excessive water. The machinery is working on maximum locations for clearance.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Army troops are busy assisting civil administration in rescue and relief efforts. Contingencies plans are in place to meet any flood situation, it added.

What Is Cloudburst?

A sudden heavy downpour in a particular area for a short period of time that causes a major storm or flood is called a cloud burst or ‘cloudburst’. Before the cloud burst, the warm air at the bottom of the atmosphere begins to move rapidly upwards, causing the vapours in the clouds to turn into water droplets.

This process is so rapid that the cloud cannot withstand the load of newly formed water and it explodes with an explosion which results in heavy rains.

Cloudbursts usually occur in mountainous areas. Cloudbursts have wreaked havoc in northern Pakistan and Azad Kashmir in recent years.

Earlier this month, a cloudburst wreaked havoc in the village of Salkhala in Azad Kashmir’s Neelum district.

The flash floods completely destroyed 16 houses and caused partial damage to 12 houses. Numerous livestock, vehicles and fruit trees have also been affected by the floods.

Ethereum co-founder, Musk should not see the crypto industry as a joke

Ethereum

During a recent interview with BNN Bloomberg, Ethereum co-founder Anthony Di Iorio expressed his dissatisfaction with Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

According to Di Iorio, people like Musk have the ability to bring about significant change.

However, he feels that they should concentrate on real issues rather than frivolous ones:

He said, “I’m just really wishing that their energy is going to be focused around educating people, and not having fun with something that’s so important”.

Musk, who owns Ether, has garnered the ire of many in the cryptocurrency community for pushing the joke cryptocurrency Dogecoin and helping to propel its market valuation to a staggering $90 billion in early May.

The billionaire continues to promote the cryptocurrency with regular tweets and memes, but his social media clout hasn’t helped the cryptocurrency climb out of the enormous hole it dug during the latest market correction.

From its high on May 8, the meme coin has dropped more than 72%.

Ethereum co-founder Di Iorio also chastised individuals who use technology to inflate their own tokens.

Coca-Cola to launch first NFT on OpenSea to support Special Olympics

Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola, one of the world’s most well-known beverage brands, has announced the launch of a non-fungible token (NFT).

The Atlanta-based beverage corporation revealed its partnership with developer Tafi to offer branded virtual wearables named NFTs in a news release issued earlier today. The tokens will be used to represent various products and will be offered on a variety of blockchain-powered platforms.

Coca-Cola will make its first push into NFTs with this upcoming launch. It also marks the first time that a major company has used these tokens to expand its reach. All earnings from the sale will go to the Special Olympics, as the beverage firm wishes to commemorate International Friendship Day with the NFT.

Coca-Cola claimed that the NFT drop would consist of four different components, each containing multi-sensory NFTs housed inside a Friendship Box. The box will be an NFT as well. When the NFT is digitally opened, it will be auctioned off, and the winning bidder will receive more unique surprises.

The NFT launch also includes the ability to wear the assets in Decentraland, a blockchain-powered 3D virtual reality world. Coca-Cola also announced that to commemorate the launch of the NFT, it will throw a “Rooftop Party” on Decentraland.

Pfizer, AstraZeneca Antibodies drop by half in 90 days

Antibodies drop half in 90 days of Pfizer, AstraZeneca jabs: Study

According to a new study, total antibody produced by Pfizer and AstraZeneca have begun to decline within six weeks after two vaccine doses, and are to drop by more than 50% in ten weeks, highlighting the importance of booster doses.

The study, led by University College London researchers, found that the declining effect of vaccine doses was consistent across all age groups, chronic conditions, and sex groupings.

The study, which was published in The Lancet as a research letter, collected data from over 600 people and found that antibody levels are much greater after two doses of the Pfizer vaccine than after two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

They are also substantially higher in people who have already been infected with SARS-CoV-2.

Although the clinical implications of falling antibody levels are not yet evident, the researchers noted that some decline was predicted, and current research suggests that immunizations are still effective against severe disease.

Pfizer’s antibody levels dropped from 7506 U/mL at 21-41 days to 3320 U/mL after 70 days or longer. Antibody levels for AstraZeneca dropped from a median of 1201 U/mL at 0-20 days to 190 U/mL (67-644) after 70 days or more.

“The levels of antibody following both doses of either the AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccine were initially very high, which is likely to be an important part of why they are so protective against severe Covid-19,” said Maddie Shrotri from the UCL Institute of Health Informatics.

“However, we found these levels dropped substantially over the course of two to three months. If they carry on dropping at this rate, we are concerned that the protective effects of the vaccines may also begin to wear off, particularly against new variants; but we cannot yet predict how soon that might happen,” she added.

The findings back up the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization’s (JCVI) recommendation that adults who are clinically susceptible, those aged 70 and up, and all inhabitants of care facilities for the elderly be given priority for booster doses.

“In addition, those who were vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine, including most care home residents, are likely to have much lower antibody levels than those vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine, so this may also need to be considered when deciding who should be prioritized when boosters are rolled out,” said Professor Rob Aldridge from the UCL Institute of Health Informatics.

However, because the study only contained a small sample size, different persons will have varying levels of immunity based on their antibodies’ ability to neutralize viruses as well as their T-cell responses.

As a result, more research is needed to determine if an antibody level threshold is required for protection against severe disease, according to the researchers.
