MIT engineers design underwater wireless camera with no battery

MIT engineers design underwater wireless camera
  • MIT engineers have created a wireless camera that can function underwater for extended periods of time.
  • The device is fueled by sound.
  • It takes better pictures than its predecessors and can work in low light.

According to a study published in the journal Nature Communications, MIT engineers have created a wireless, battery-free camera that can function underwater for extended periods of time.

According to engineers, the device is fueled by sound. According to researchers, this camera is 100,000 times more effective than the cameras that came before it.

Even better, the camera can wirelessly transmit data to the scientists while submerged and take colored photos. The camera takes better pictures than its predecessors and can work in low light.

As a result, it might be among the most inventive cameras ever created. Scientists can rely on the camera before taking it back to the surface because it doesn’t need any electricity.

Sound waves’ mechanical energy is transformed into electrical energy by the gadget. Strong visuals are produced by this energy, which also employs them in communication.

Tata Tiago: Affordable EV launched in India; price equals Suzuki Alto

Tata Tiago: Affordable EV
  • Tata Motors has introduced the Tata Tiago, a compact and reasonably priced electric vehicle (EV) in India.
  • Nur E75, Pakistan’s first domestic EV, was unveiled last month.
  • Nur has a top speed of 127 km/hr, a single electric motor with 107 HP and 200 Nm.

With the introduction of locally made, high-tech, affordable cars, India’s automotive sector is still making significant strides forward.

In a recent development, Tata Motors introduced the Tata Tiago, a compact and reasonably priced electric vehicle (EV), in India.

There are no direct competitors for the subcompact all-electric hatchback Tata Tiago.

However, it competes with the Suzuki Celerio (Cultus in Pakistan), United Alpha, and Kia Picanto in terms of size.

The vehicle has the following features:

  • Two battery sizes: 19.2 kWh, which has a 250 km range, and 24 kWh, which has a 315 km range (MIDC).
  • Standard automatic climate control
  • Harman Kardon sound system with 8 speakers
  • Cruise control
  • 4 types of regenerative braking
  • Various drive modes

It has a torsion bar coil-spring suspension in the back and a McPherson strut suspension up front.

Additionally, it has 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS. Tiago provides a number of fundamental features, including:

  • Immobilizer System
  • Windows with power
  • Keyless entrance
  • Child seat anchors with ISOFIX
  • Reverse Camera
  • Park-Aware Sensors
  • Display Cluster for Instruments
  • Smart Infotainment System with Apple Carplay Connectivity
  • Manual AC

The Tiago EV is one of the least expensive EVs in India with a starting price of $10,370 or INR 849,000, or roughly Rs 2.5 million. Delivery will begin in January 2023.

EV in Pakistan

The Nur E75, Pakistan’s first domestic EV, was unveiled last month.

The electric hatchback was created by the DICE foundation, a Pakistani-run NGO with US headquarters, and it seeks to compete in a market dominated by subcompact vehicles like the Suzuki Alto.

Nur-E will be distributed under a firm called Jaxari whose name was inspired by the Muslim scientist Ismail-al-Jazari. With a top speed of 127 km/hr, it has a single electric motor with 107 HP and 200 Nm.

It will have a 35 kWh battery, which the manufacturer claims will give it a 200 km range when the AC is running.

Using a standard charger will take about 7-8 hours while using a quicker DC charger will take roughly 2 hours.

Dr. Khurshid Qureshi, the founder and chairman of the DICE Foundation, claims that the Nur-E 75 will be less expensive in Pakistan than the Nissan Leaf and Honda e, which are both priced between $35,000 and $45,000 abroad.

Given its category, Nur could be priced around Rs. 3-4 million, though the pricing isn’t confirmed yet.

Moon shows impacts of dinosaur-killing asteroid; study

Moon shows impacts of dinosaur-killing asteroid
  • Dinosaurs may have been wiped out by meteorites that hit Earth billions of years ago.
  • China’s Change 5 probe has brought samples from the moon to Earth.
  • Analysis shows important events that affected the earth were part of other events happening in space.

Surprising information about the past of our solar system has been revealed by China’s Change 5, which brought samples from the moon to Earth. Science Advances has reported on one such discovery.

The dinosaurs may have been killed by the meteorites that struck our planet and the moon thousands of years ago, according to evidence discovered by scientists.

The lunar soil analysis demonstrated that important events that affected the earth were part of other events happening in space, say experts from Curtin University.

The team scrutinized tiny glass beads from two billion years ago to reach the conclusion.

Scientists said that those beads must have been created by the heat and pressure of meteorites. The silicate fragments might have developed as a result of volcanic eruptions.

Researchers employed numerous microscopic analytical techniques and geological surveys.

They discovered that some spherules, or lunar beads, were from the same era as the crater events that wiped out the dinosaurs.

Oppo Reno9 to launch soon; features fast charging

Oppo Reno9 to launch soon
  • Oppo Reno9 series may be released in November.
  • Sports MediaTek’s Dimensity 8 series and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 series processors.
  • The 4,500mAh battery capacity will support UFCS.

The Oppo Reno9 series may be released in November, and the first information about them has just been available.

According to a well-known Chinese source on Weibo, the Oppo Reno9 series, like the Oppo Reno8 family, will use both MediaTek’s Dimensity 8 series and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 series CPUs.

China’s new UFCS (Universal Fast Charging Specification), a unified charging standard that, for now, appears to have a 40W maximum, will be used by Oppo and a number of other Chinese manufacturers.

The 4,500mAh battery capacity for the Reno9 series will support UFCS.

Huawei, Vivo, Xiaomi, and other companies that are less well-known in the West but still support the UFCS standard include Angbao Electronics, Lihui Technology, Rockchip, and Silicon Power.

The Reno9 series will thereafter come in an “Everything Red” colorway.

Xiaomi electric sports car launched in China

Xiaomi electric sports car launched
  • Xiaopaoche’s SC-01 roadster has 435 horsepower (hp) dual-electric motors.
  • It is a lightweight, compact roadster that can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds.
  • It will reportedly cost under 300,000 RMB, according to rumors. (Rs. 9.5 million).

Xiaomi has started to actively participate in the development of electric vehicles (EVs), as seen by the introduction of the SC-01 roadster.

The EV was developed by Xiaopaoche, a Chinese automaker with Xiaomi’s support.

With 435 horsepower (hp) dual-electric motors, the SC-01 is a lightweight, compact roadster that can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds.

The SC-01’s battery size has not been disclosed by the manufacturer, however, it is believed to have a 500 km range.

For its diminutive size, SC-01 has gotten a tonne of accolades from aficionados. Its exact measurements are 2500 mm in wheelbase and 4085/1820/1162 mm in height.

Additionally, it is far lighter than the majority of electric sedans at 1,300 kg. All of these features will probably make SC-01 a Lotus Elise and Exige-style spiritual successor.

SC-01 will reportedly cost under 300,000 RMB, according to rumors (Rs. 9.5 million). The company has begun accepting reservations from customers for 199 RMB (Rs. 6,400).

Due to chronic inflation and dismal exchange rates, international news sites are referring to it as a “cheap sports EV,” which is far from the reality for Pakistanis.

In Q3 2023, Xiaopaoche will start accepting official orders for the SC-01, and delivery will start in Q4 2023. The SC-01 is a fascinating EV that might appeal to markets besides China.

SECP facilitates digital onboarding of investors

SECP facilitates digital onboarding
  • SECP has allowed AMCs and PFMs to conduct investor identity verification.
  • The new regulation is part of SECP’s efforts to usher in a new era of smart investing.
  • Customers can now be seamlessly on-boarded through digital wallets and branchless banking operators.

ISLAMABAD: The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has allowed Asset Management Companies (AMCs) and Pension Fund Managers (PFMs) to conduct investor identity verification to facilitate seamless onboarding of investors, a statement said.

They may do so either on their own, or by obtaining identification documents from the onboarding platform through which a micro-saving customer is being on-boarded, it added.

This development will not only support AMCs and PFMs in smooth integration with potential branchless banking operators and Electronic Money Institutions (EMI), but will also assist in complying with applicable requirements of anti-money laundering/combating the financing of terrorism regulatory framework.

The new regulation is part of the SECP’s efforts to usher in a new era of smart investing and to ensure provision of seamless onboarding experience for mutual fund investors, on-boarded through branchless banking and EMI platforms to open Sehl Sarmayakari Accounts.

SECP introduced Sehl Sarmayakari Accounts to promote micro-savings culture where a customer can be seamlessly on-boarded through digital wallets and branchless banking operators without providing any additional information or document to the AMCs.

This reflects the SECP’s continued commitment to support digitalisation and providing a conductive investment climate for growth of non-bank financial sector and capital markets.

The SECP is of the view that as the industry transitions towards the digitalisation of financial services, digital onboarding will soon become the norm in the industry.

US probing HBL for alleged terror financing

US probing HBL for alleged terror financing
  • Habib Bank Limited (HBL) has been under investigation for allegedly providing financial support to the terrorist organisations.
  • The bank said the allegations in the complaints are meritless and it is contesting them fully and vigorously.
  • HBL Bank and HBL’s New York branch were previously implicated in money laundering and terrorist financing back in 2017.

KARACHI: Habib Bank Limited (HBL) has been under probe again in the United States for allegedly providing financial support to the terrorist organisations.

As per the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA), HBL Bank has repeated misconduct and revealed a pattern of funding terrorism at various occasions in the last decade as of 2006.

Plaintiffs in these consolidated cases are 370 individuals who were injured or whose family members were injured or killed in terrorist attacks, who brought this action against HBL under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), as amended by the JASTA.

In its clarification, the bank said the allegations in the complaints are meritless, and HBL is contesting them fully and vigorously.

The public record is clear that HBL is unwavering in its commitment to combating the financing of terrorism, which has been well documented — its extensive global implementation of anti-money laundering compliance controls has been highly successful and lauded by regulators around the world, it added.

HBL’s motion was successful in two respects. The court dismissed the primary liability claim and narrowed the case substantially.

The court also stated secondary liabilities will be evaluated following the due legal proceedings and no judgement was passed by the court on this matter, the statement noted.

Watch: Robot runs 100 m in 24.73 seconds; sets record

Robot runs 100 m in 24.73 seconds
  • An Oregon State University robot has broken the world record for bipedal robot 100-meter dash.
  • Cassie broke the previous record by completing the course in 24.73 seconds.
  • The robot’s knees bend like those of an ostrich, and it runs five kilometers in 53 minutes.

According to a news release from Oregon State University (OSU), a robot it designed, beat the previous record for the quickest bipedal robot 100-meter dash by completing the course in under 24.73 seconds.

At OSU’s Whyte Track and Field Center, a mechanical sprinter going by the name of Cassie broke the previous record without falling.

According to the press statement, the robot lacks “eyes,” a camera, and sensors.

“The robot’s knees bend like those of an ostrich.”

Professor of robotics at Oregon State Jonathan Hurst oversaw Cassie’s development, and she ran five kilometers in just 53 minutes in 2021.

In the Dynamic Robotics and AI Lab at Oregon State, Cassie, introduced in 2017, has sparked additional investigations into machine learning possibilities.

The project’s leader, graduate student Devin Crowley, stated that years of work were put into setting the world record.

He continued, “Cassie has been a platform for cutting-edge research in robot learning for locomotion.”

According to the Guinness World Record, the race wasn’t a straightforward one-way in which Cassie could go 100 meters and collide.

Once it had crossed the finish line, the robot had to resume its upright position.

Tiktok takes down over 100 M videos over policy violations

Tiktok takes down over 100 M videos
  • Video-sharing platform TikTok says it removed 113 million videos between April and June of 2022.
  • Minor safety violations were found to be the most frequent policy infraction that led to the removal.
  • Users who were breaking the rules were found by the company’s AI and human inspection.

In its quarterly transparency report, the short video platform TikTok stated that between April and June of 2022, it removed over 113 million recordings.

Despite the size of the statistic, 113 million is only 1% of all videos produced over the course of those three months.

Minor safety violations were found to be the most frequent policy infraction that led to the removal of videos, accounting for roughly 44% of the content.

Nudity and unlawful activity are other justifications.

More and more movies are being deleted by the platform’s automatic system.

In those three months, more than 95% of the videos that were removed were not reported by a user.

Users who were breaking the rules were found by the company’s AI and human inspection.

“We expanded our capacity to iterate rapidly on our systems given the fast-changing nature of misinformation, especially during a crisis or event (e.g. the war in Ukraine or an election),” the report stated.

Pakistanis can now open a bank account through SMS

Pakistanis can now open a bank account
  • The SBP has introduced a new service that enables you to open a bank account from the comfort of your home.
  • Sending an SMS to *2262# will get you registered, allow you to choose a bank, and grant you a PIN for your account.
  • The government representative made it clear that women will be given special attention.

A bank account opening might be a real hassle. The prerequisites for opening an account differ between banks, and some tend to ask more questions than others.

If you have a job, it is considerably more difficult because you need extra paperwork to confirm your employment.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has introduced a new service, however, that enables you to open a bank account from the comfort of your home.

Even if you don’t have a working internet connection, you can still accomplish this. Through SBP’s new Asaan Mobile Account service, you can now open a bank account by sending an SMS to *2262#.

The aforementioned picture lists each of the necessary stages.

Sending an SMS to the aforementioned code will get you registered, allow you to choose a bank, input your CNIC information, and grant you a PIN for your account.

This demonstrates that any bank can use the capability to open an account, rather than just the State Bank of Pakistan.

Salman Sufi, head of the Prime Minister’s Strategic Reforms Unit, tweeted the information. He declared:

“Inclusion in financial system should be facilitated for women/transgender citizens, especially those without mobile data. Now simply SMS *2262# and open a bank account without visiting any bank. All you need is your CNIC. Let’s open banking to everyone. Not just a few.”

Although he states that “women and transsexual citizens” should be accommodated, it is important to note that the facility is accessible to everybody.

However, the government representative made it clear that women are given special attention because they frequently experience difficulties when creating bank accounts.

Salman Sufi replied to a user who asked how the bank account will function with regard to verification, deposits, transfers, withdrawals, and other features by saying that everything can be done via SMS.

It will be interesting to see how this service develops and how the general public, particularly women and transgender people, respond to it.

Facebook, which is owned by Meta, has been requested to reopen offices in Pakistan, much like it has in other countries like India.

Facebook representatives have vowed to visit Pakistan shortly after being contacted by the Pakistani authorities about the situation.

The invitation was sent out during a meeting between Meta representatives from Romania and Federal Minister for Information Technology (IT) Syed Aminul Haq.

For the Ministerial Conference of the International Telecommunication Union, around 186 ministerial delegations assembled in the European country (ITU PP-22). Romania’s capital city of Bucharest hosted the summit.

The IT Minister mentioned during the conference that Pakistan currently has over 40 million Facebook users and anticipates its internet user base to quadruple in the next years.

Employees at Meta expressed happiness with Pakistan’s internet development and pointed out that the number of Facebook users in that nation has increased significantly in recent years.

The IT Minister used the chance to request that Facebook establish local offices in Pakistan.

Officials from the massive social network company promised that they will soon visit the nation.

It’s important to note that this is not the first time a report of this kind has appeared.

Facebook representatives reportedly discussed opening local offices in Pakistan with the director of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) earlier this year.

Both parties apparently spoke for more than 3.5 hours, covering a wide range of topics.

The Director made it plain that, like other South Asian nations like India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, creating a local office in Pakistan was a prerequisite for Facebook.

Later, the FIA refuted rumors that Facebook intended to set up shop in Pakistan.

Later that day, the agency released a press release claiming that all such accusations are unfounded and unconfirmed.

Apple iPhone 12 vs Apple iPhone 14: Detailed specs comparison

Apple iPhone 12 vs Apple iPhone 14
  • iPhone 14 and iPhone 12 are two generations apart but very similar in design.
  • Both phones have a ceramic glass covering their displays and are IP68 certified.
  • The new model uses 25W charging as opposed to the iPhone 12’s 20W.

Recently, the iPhone 14 series launched on sale in all countries, giving customers access to Apple’s newest innovations.

The iPhone 14 is quite identical to the company’s previous generation model, even though the Pro, Plus, and Max models receive good updates.

Even yet, if you don’t want to spend a lot of money on a new iPhone this year, the A15 bionic chip and the tiny form size make it an attractive option.

Does it make sense to spend more money and upgrade to the new iPhone 14 model if you are already using an iPhone model like the iPhone 12?

In this comparison of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 12, we attempt to provide an answer.

Design

Despite being two generations apart, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 12 have several design features in common.

It is obvious that Apple is not making much of an effort to set the new model apart from its predecessors, at least not for the basic iPhone model.

For instance, both the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 12 maintain the same basic design. The aluminum frame and glass front and rear of the two phones are identical.

iPhone 14 actually has the same unsightly display notch on the front as earlier versions. Notably, the notch on the iPhone 14 is a little bit less than the one on the iPhone 12.

Both phones come in a variety of colors. The colors of the iPhone 12 were Black, White, Red, Green, Blue, and Purple.

iPhone 14 adds Midnight and Starlight colors to the previously stated ones but does not offer the green option.

Both phones have a ceramic glass covering their displays and are IP68 certified.

Even their sizes are strikingly similar. The body of the iPhone 14 measures 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.8mm, while the body of the iPhone 12 is 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.4mm.

As you can see, both models have the exact same length and width, with the exception of the current model’s modest increase in thickness.

The iPhone 14 weighs 172 grams as opposed to the iPhone 12’s 164 grams, making it significantly heavier.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro experiences network & charging issues

Apple iPhone 14 Pro network & charging issues
  • The iPhone 14 Pro series has had its fair share of glitches and other issues.
  • A new bug causes the iPhone to restart when charging and even cause issues with network connectivity.
  • Both MagSafe wireless charging and lightning cable charging for the iPhone 14 Pro versions will cause a restart.

The Apple iPhone 14 series has been in the news since its release for a number of glitches and other problems.

The most recent versions now discuss a bug that causes the 2022 iPhone to restart when charging and even causes issues with network connectivity.

Let’s have a look.

We previously highlighted information about problems the iPhone 14 Pro series models were having with some fundamental system programs, notably iMessage.

Users of the iPhone 14 Pro series now seem to be having greater problems with a variety of other features as well.

This includes issues with the Dynamic Island function as well as the performance of satellite phones.

In addition, Verizon customers who utilize the iPhone 14 Pro are reporting very poor 5G signals and other network coverage concerns.

Both of these standout features were highlighted during the iPhone 14 series introduction by the Cupertino-based company.

But the bugs don’t end there; the new Apple flagship phones also have a significant problem with charging.

Both MagSafe wireless charging and lightning cable charging for the iPhone 14 Pro versions will cause a restart.

Since battery life issues have affected Apple iPhones since the release of iOS 16, this is not the only fault with the new iPhone’s battery.

Although there is currently no formal statement for it, the bug is not impacting everyone.

Online, there is an unofficial remedy that involves turning off background app refresh.

To find this, go to Settings, choose the General tab, go to the Background App Refresh option, and then select it.
