Three people killed in shooting at Michigan State University

According to officials, at least three individuals were killed when a gunman opened fire at Michigan State University.

Police stated the suspect died from a “self-inflicted gunshot wound” in addition to the three victims.

Another five people were hurt in the late-night attack on East Lansing’s main campus.

The suspect was characterized as “a black male of shorter stature” by police. They eventually revealed that he was 43 years old and had no known ties to the university.

Students and local neighbors were instructed to shelter-in-place throughout the manhunt, however, police eventually rescinded the order, claiming there was “no longer a threat to campus”.

The suspect was “located off campus,” they added.

The suspect was wearing a denim jacket, a navy baseball cap, and red sneakers in earlier photographs.

On Monday, shortly after 20:00 local time, the gunfire began (01:00 GMT Tuesday).

Officers reacted to the attack and discovered victims at Berkey Hall on the north side of campus and the nearby Michigan State University Union building.

The police indicated at a press conference that there were many crime scenes and that their investigation was ongoing. The attacker’s motivation remains unknown.

A number of ambulances were observed arriving on the site, and the injured, some of whom are said to be in critical condition, are now being treated in a hospital.

“This truly has been a nightmare that we are living tonight,” said Deputy Chief Chris Rozman of the university’s police force.

For at least 48 hours, all campus activities have been canceled. East Lansing is located around 70 miles (112 kilometers) north of Detroit.
