Spain‘s Interior Ministry announced in a statement that 168,000 refugees from the Ukraine war have been housed there one year after Russia’s invasion.

33% of them are under the age of 18 and 63% of them are women. Nearly bulk of the refugees are Ukrainian citizens, although 1.8% were lawfully residing in Ukraine before the crisis broke out last year, according to the ministry.

The status of the refugees in Spain is “temporary protection.”

About 8 million Ukrainian refugees have been registered across Europe, according to the UN.
