According to Reuters, the problem has arisen because Nigeria has restricted access to foreign exchange.
The government has yet to respond.
Emirates said in a statement that it had “made significant efforts to initiate dialogue with the relevant authorities for their urgent intervention to help find a viable solution.”
“[It is] regrettable there has been no progress.”
Flights will be suspended on September 1st in order “to limit further losses and impact on our operation cost.”
According to Reuters, the International Air Transport Association stated in June that Nigeria owed various airlines $450 million (£370 million).
Emirates stated that it may reconsider its decision “if any positive developments occur in the coming days.”
It went on to say that affected passengers can get their tickets refunded.
