Laken Riley, a dedicated student, was discovered dead near Lake Herrick, having suffered blunt force trauma. Jose was swiftly apprehended, facing multiple charges including murder and kidnapping.

Diego Ibarra, Jose’s brother, faced legal trouble for possessing a fake green card. He was detained as a person of interest in Laken’s murder case. Diego, also from Venezuela, claimed asylum and was released from immigration custody while awaiting a decision.

Jose and Diego grew up in San Sebastián, Venezuela, before moving to Georgia. Jose frequently shares family photos on Facebook, indicating he is married.
