YouTube TV adds new PiP Mini-Player for android

YouTube TV for Android is rolling out a new picture-in-picture (PiP) mini-player, similar to the one previously introduced on the main YouTube app. This new feature is available with version 8.47.0 of the YouTube TV app, as reported by 9to5Google.

PiP Mini-Player features

The PiP mini-player offers several controls, including:

  • Play/Pause

  • 15-second rewind and forward buttons
  • A close button
  • Pinch-to-zoom functionality for resizing

The update comes after the main YouTube app faced backlash for a similar PiP mini-player introduced in July. While some users appreciated the feature, others criticized it for glitches and preferred the older design.

In response, YouTube recently reverted to its original mini-player design, placing it stationary at the bottom of the app. This change was widely welcomed, with users expressing relief at the return of familiarity.

With the introduction of this PiP mini-player on YouTube TV, it remains uncertain how users will respond. Will they embrace the added functionality, or will this design choice face similar criticism? Time will tell as more users experience the update.
