LAHORE: The Punjab government, utilizing locally developed technology, successfully carried out a cloud seeding operation on Friday to induce artificial rainfall in selected areas.

The operation targeted Jhelum, Gujar Khan, Chakwal, and Talagang and commenced around 2 pm, resulting in rainfall in the designated regions. Experts have suggested expanding such initiatives to Lahore to combat the ongoing smog crisis.

The operation was made possible through collaboration among various institutions, including Pakistan’s Strategic Plans Division (SPD), Army Aviation, Pak-Arab Refinery Limited (PARCO), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Punjab government.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz hailed the achievement as a historic milestone, expressing pride in the efforts of the team behind the successful execution. Meanwhile, Senior Minister Mariam Aurangzeb emphasized that the operation was conducted using indigenous expertise, distinguishing it from a previous UAE-supported experiment.

This initiative demonstrates the Punjab government’s commitment to leveraging innovative technology to address environmental challenges. The event is seen as a sustainable step forward in tackling Punjab’s smog crisis while showcasing Pakistan’s advancements in technological capabilities.
